Men’s Health Week 2023
International Men’s Health Week (MHW) is celebrated 12th – 18th June. It serves as a reminder to discuss the importance of the health and wellbeing of men and boys in our lives. The men’s health umbrella encompasses conditions such as heart disease, cholesterol, diabetes, cancer (bowel and prostate), penis problems and depression.
This years theme:
In Australia Men’s Health Week is organised by the Center for Male Health at Western Sydney University. It provides a platform for challenging and debating key issues in men’s health and to raise the profile of men. Men’s Health Weeks focus is to keep the spotlight on health outcomes, and the health needs around the country. MHW celebrates the strengths of men, the contributions they make, and the important roles they play in society.
The Men’s Health Week theme for 2023 is Healthy Habits, focusing on identifying small changes that benefit health and wellbeing.
Men often feel reluctant to seek support for their health management. Statistics show that compared to women, men visit the doctor less frequently. Additionally they have shorter visits and raise issues or illnesses at later stages. This may be because men are feeling they have to ’tough it out’ or are unsure about how to best start. One of the easiest things you can do is just talk! Talk to a GP, talk to a partner, talk to mates or talk to your family.
