Better Assessment. More Individualised Rehabilitation.
Because effective rehabilitation starts with understanding what needs to improve.
Going Beyond the Traditional Assessment
At WHL, we combine clinical examination with objective strength and performance testing to gain a clearer understanding of your physical capabilities.
Using technology including VALD ForceDecks and DynaMo, we can measure aspects of muscle strength, force production, jump performance and side-to-side differences.
These measurements, interpreted alongside your injury history and clinical assessment, help identify specific physical qualities requiring attention.
We then use these findings to develop a rehabilitation program tailored to your needs, sporting demands and goals.
What Can We Measure?
Testing is selected according to the athlete's injury, stage of rehabilitation and individual clinical needs.
Turning Assessment Results into Meaningful Rehabilitation
Collecting data is only useful when it informs what happens next. Our physiotherapists use assessment findings to guide exercise selection, rehabilitation progression and ongoing reassessment.
Identify
Combine clinical examination with relevant objective testing to identify strength deficits, movement limitations and physical capacities requiring further development.
Individualise
Develop a targeted exercise program addressing the athlete's specific findings, recovery stage and sporting requirements.
Measure Progress
Reassess relevant physical qualities as rehabilitation progresses, allowing the program to be adjusted according to the athlete's response and changing capabilities.
Our philosophy: Your rehabilitation should be built around your injury, your assessment findings and what your sport demands — not simply a generic collection of exercises.
Preparing Your Body for the Demands of Sport
Feeling better is an important step, but returning to sport often requires much more.
Depending on your injury and sport, rehabilitation may progress through strength development, running, jumping, landing, accelerating, decelerating and changing direction.
We combine clinical assessment, objective measurements and sport-specific rehabilitation to help guide progression back towards training and competition.
Return-to-sport decisions consider your symptoms, physical capacity, confidence and the demands of your particular sport.

Sports Physiotherapy FAQs
What is the difference between sports physiotherapy and regular physiotherapy?
Sports physiotherapy considers the specific physical demands of training and competition. Rehabilitation may involve strength testing, progressive loading, sport-specific exercises and return-to-sport planning.
What is VALD testing?
VALD provides technology for objectively measuring physical qualities such as strength and force production. At WHL, ForceDecks and DynaMo can provide measurements to complement clinical assessment and inform rehabilitation planning.
Does everyone need VALD testing?
No. Testing is selected when it is relevant to your injury and rehabilitation goals. Your physiotherapist will determine which assessments are appropriate.
Can physiotherapy help me return to football, lacrosse or running?
Physiotherapy can support rehabilitation following many sporting injuries. Your program will depend on the injury, your current physical capacity and the demands of your chosen activity.
Do I need a GP referral?
Generally, a GP referral isn't required for private physiotherapy appointments. Some funded treatment pathways have additional requirements.
